He Writes the Songs

Us Before the Concert

Last night I joined Barry Manilow for a night of Music and Passion. My mom came too.

It was so much fun, and we had great seats. Seriously, I don't think I've ever seen her have as much fun as she did when he started into Copacabana. Oh my, did we dance.

But first, let's talk about the opening act. His name was Brian Culbertson, and he apparently had a hit song on the smooth jazz radio format last year. Lord willing, this is the only reference you will ever see to "smooth jazz" on this blog. Not particularly my cup of tea, but oh my word, he was very talented and in touch enough with the crowd he was playing for to cover some some Earth, Wind, and Fire. Moving on.

Barry. The hits. The legend. He played all the greats. I was reading the Dallas Morning News review, and the reviewer said it very well...he turned a large group of people into "one big sappy family." He is a fantastic entertainer. During Mandy, he actually sang and played a duet with his 1974 self on the big screen. I can't believe I'm saying this, but it was rather emotional! We also got Manilow glow sticks to take home. How cool is that? I'm not really the biggest Barry fan, but the glowsticks really won me over.

I'm going straight home today to download Barry on iTunes.

Love Barry's face on the screen in this one

  1. Girl. I have been to his concert and you cannot help being happy. He's cheese and all that, but there is something about THOSE SONGS! And being surrounded by a bunch of grown women singing every single word. At our concert we had adult women fighting over the glow sticks. The usher had to assure them that there were plenty for everyone.

  3. Thanks for taking me "mom" to the concert. Yes, I do know every word to every song. Everyone at school was green with envy. I think I'll buy me some yellow feathers for my hair and a dress cut down to there......I know, "enough Mom!" I had a great time.

    Love Mom!
